You are probably wondering what a “Mini AVR” actually is and why anyone would require one. Russound has announced the AVA2.1 and AVA3.1 Mini AVRs and we think there is a definite need for them in the CI market.

While the majority of current AVRs on the market offer the ability to power multiple zones, very few consumers actually use that feature for something other than a pair of loudspeakers in an adjacent room.

More sophisticated multi-room audio installations often include multiple multi-channel amplifiers, a rack of sources and a central controller that is connected to keypads in every designated room. While that can create a very satisfying integration of audio, video, lighting, security, and HVAC control in your home — it also comes with a rather hefty price tag.

Not everyone has the budget for that or requires that level of integration.

But what about consumers who want a separate audio system outside on the deck or in a Four Seasons Sunroom that includes in-ceiling loudspeakers and an Outdoor TV?

How about consumers that want to integrate in-ceiling or in-wall loudspeakers in a moist environment like a bathroom? Products like the Russound AVA2.1 or AVA3.1 take up very little space and can be hidden inside a bathroom vanity or even behind the wall; consumers can stream audio from a smartphone to either model and not have to worry about moisture affecting the amplifier.

Custom integrators can also connect external digital sources to the AVRs using the included digital inputs; cable boxes, streamers, and Smart TVs with optical or HDMI ARC outputs.

The two models are sized the same measuring only 7.7” x 5.5” x 1.7”. They differ in their number of audio channels, either offering 2.1- and 3.1-channels of audio output. These highly flexible receivers can be placed in nearly any imaginable space, including outdoors when used with a weatherproof box.

“These are the AVRs our customers asked for,” says Charlie Porritt, CEO, Russound. “The AVA2.1 and AVA3.1 are ultra-compact, high-performance AVRs designed to fit nearly anywhere, including behind the wall. They’re a boon for custom specialists who need flexible, reliable audio solutions that are easy to install and hide out of sight.”

Both the AVA2.1 and AVA3.1 include a fully integrated, highly efficient class-D amplifier with digital inputs and power output up to 150 watts, 110-240V 50/60Hz universal power supply, built-in Bluetooth 5.0, ARC HDMI, a dedicated subwoofer output with gain control, bass and treble adjustments, a 3.5mm analog output for connection to an outboard amplifier, and an IR remote control with an external receiver.

In addition, the thermally designed and optimized enclosure is designed for use in reduced ventilation spaces such as behind the TV boxes, and the HDMI input allows for immediate use with any TV via HDMI’s CEC functionality, eliminating the need to teach IR commands for volume control, thereby simplifying and speeding up installations.

Adds Mr. Porritt: “The AVA2.1 and AVA3.1 are important products for Russound and our dealers, and they are indicative of the direction we’re taking in our 57th year. The market will continue to see us introduce new and innovative high-performance audio products through next year, most of which are designed with direct input from our customers.”
